Arabic voice typing on Windows: your options, compared
Windows Voice Typing, Google Docs and Saywork for Arabic dictation on Windows — what works for Egyptian Arabic, and what happens when you mix Arabic and English in one sentence.
Arabic voice typing on Windows has always been harder than English. Most tools were built for Modern Standard Arabic, struggle with dialect, and fall apart when you switch to English for a word or two — which is how most people in Egypt actually speak at work.
Windows Voice Typing
Press Windows + H in a text box. Whether Arabic is offered depends on the language packs installed in Settings → Time & language. It types your words as spoken; mixing languages in one sentence generally isn't what it's designed for.
Google Docs voice typing
In Google Docs in Chrome, Tools → Voice typing, then choose an Arabic variant. Useful for long drafts, but it only works inside Docs, and you'll still clean the text up yourself.
Saywork
Saywork dictation is built for Egyptian Arabic as people speak it, for English, and for both in one sentence. "Hi Sara, the meeting moves to Friday at 10, وهاتي ملف الأسعار معاكي" comes out exactly like that: English in English, Arabic in Arabic, with punctuation and without the filler. It types in any app on Windows 10 and 11, and on the paid plans keeps working without internet.
And it can do the task, not just type it: hold Caps Lock and say "ابعت لكريم ملف الأسعار على الإيميل" and Saywork does it in your own Gmail, showing you the email before it sends.
Tips for better Arabic dictation
- Speak at your normal pace; pausing between every word makes it worse, not better.
- Add names and brand words to your dictionary once.
- Don't translate yourself — say the English words in English.
