Why an AI agent should ask before it sends anything

An agent that works in your real accounts needs one rule above the rest: nothing another person will see leaves without your OK. Here's why, and what it looks like.

An AI agent that can only draft text is safe and limited. An agent that works in your real accounts — your email, your messages, your browser where you're already signed in — is genuinely useful, and that's exactly why it needs rules. The most important one is simple:

Nothing another person will see, and nothing that costs money, happens without your OK.

Why this rule, above all the others

Most mistakes an agent can make are reversible: a wrong file opened, a search that went nowhere, a draft that needs rewriting. The ones that matter are the ones you can't take back — an email sent to the wrong person, a message in the wrong tone, a payment. A good agent treats those differently from everything else.

What it looks like in Saywork

When a job ends in sending something, Saywork stops on the card and shows you:

You can change it, press Send, or just say "send it". Until then, nothing leaves your computer. The same applies to replies in DMs, follow-ups after meetings, and reminders like the ones in chasing unpaid invoices.

Stop always works

The second rule: you can always stop it. One button ends any job instantly, and you can see every step it took, in order. There's no point in a job you can't interrupt.

Honest about what it finished

The third: no pretending. When a job only partly works — a site changed, a file wasn't where it expected — Saywork says in a sentence or two what it did and what it couldn't, instead of reporting success. When it's really stuck, it stops and tells you rather than going round in circles.

Checking its own work

For documents, that honesty goes further: Saywork checks what it wrote against the source files before it says it's done, and every fact carries the page it came from. More in getting through a folder of documents.

Why it makes the agent more useful, not less

It sounds like friction, but it's the opposite. Because nothing irreversible happens without you, you can hand off bigger jobs without worrying — and approving a finished message takes a second, where writing it would have taken minutes.
